Abstract

The pressure of energy saving and environmental protection makes substitute of crude oil produced by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis very attractive. Interests to synthetic natural gas (SNG) obtained through methanation have grown significantly owing to the soaring need of natural gas. The present work was undertaken to combine the production of synthetic oil and SNG through a type of bimetallic catalyst with Co and Ni. We expected to gain a relatively higher fraction of methane to achieve the coproduction of methane and synthetic oil.TPR profiles suggested that reducing peaks of bimetallic catalysts were found to exhibit a shift to lower temperatures compared with monometallic catalysts. 10Co-10Ni/Al2O3 had a relatively lower reducing temperature at 383℃.10Co-10Ni/Al2O3 possessed the lowest CO2 selectivity and a relatively high C5+ fraction, and it exhibited distinct behaviors in comparison with the physical mixture of 20Co/Al2O3 and 20Ni/Al2O3. Physically mixed catalyst of 20Co/Al2O3 and 20Ni/Al2O3 gave worse F-T activity than equivalent co-impregnated 10Co-10Ni/Al2O3 samples. Catalyst prepared through the dehydrated ethanol exhibited the highest CO conversion. The catalytic performance of 10Co-10Ni/Al2O3 has been studied in operation conditions: reaction temperature 240-260℃, reaction pressure 0.5-2.5MPa and space velocity 600-3000ml·g-1·h-1. Reaction temperature plays an obvious role in product distribution while selectivity towards CH4 would achieve 21.50% at 260℃. The improvement of reaction pressure is propitious to the conversion of CO as well as production of heavy hydrocarbons, which can also decrease the selectivity of light hydrocarbons.
