Aimed at the running problems such as low furnace efficiency and higher exhaust gas temperature, A coking furnace (F101A)of a refinery is researched in this paper. This study began with the basis of the theoretical principles such as heat transfer, mass transfer, momentum transfer and chemical reaction. After collecting and analyzing of on-site data of operation, a model of in-service furnace operation was established and used in fluid dynamics software "Fluent" to optimize the rational organization of the method of flow and combustion in furnace. Analysis and optimization on improving the combustion and heat transfer was proceed from the two aspects:On one hand, study on the route of burner-furnace-furnace tube by the establishment of numerical simulation of radiation heat transfer model. Analysed the relationship between different operating parameters with the turbulent flow, combustion, and distribution of pollutants effects, and find the most suitable operating conditions for flow and combustion in furnace. Then on the other hand, considered of putting a swirl method above burner exit, or adding a air register to make the straight flame to be swirl flame. Swirling flow structure in furnace strengthed the mix of fuel and combustion air, Improved combustion quality and increase furnace efficiency. At last, bring about the reducing of flue gas temperature of the upper part of the convection-section.Finally, the most suitable operating parameters for flow and combustion in furnace is given, excess air coefficient is 1.1 (α),air temperature is 440K and swirling angle is 70°(θ) of the air flow by the simulation and feasibility analysis.
