Abstract


The income, leisure time and the way of destination are important factors affecting the public consumption of traveling. Particularly in China since 2008, the implementation of the new holiday system--the promulgation of "National Holidays and Festival Approach", adjusts the length and structure of citizens’leisure time, and builds a new model of leisure time called "1+2+5+43 ". In this context, citizens’ travel motivation, preferences and behavior are bound to a series of new changes, and also generate a new tourism consumption characteristics and trends, which provide the appropriate intellectual support to the government policies, market development of the tourism enterprises.This study takes the Shanghai residents as samples. It adopts the theoretical analysis, field surveys, quantitative and qualitative research methods on the Shanghai tourism consumption elasticity of the public inquiry, and explains the causes and characteristics of the concrete. Combined with the research results, in view of the consumption analysis, this study analyses the characteristics, trends and causes of the Shanghai public tourism consumption using of the comparative analysis of consumer flexibility. It summarizes the main factors of the public tourism consumption elasticity and the proposals of increasing the public traveling consumption, in order to provide reference for the industrial development, market reclaiming and public services.Paper consists of seven chapters. The first chapter is the Introduction which specifies the significance, the contents of the paper, research method and research framework. ChapterⅡ, define the basic theory and related research, puts forward the contents of home and abroad field. ChapterⅢis about the Shanghai residents’ tourism-consumption survey. Based on interviews, designed the survey questionnaire for this study, and preliminary testing the validity of the questionnaire. ChapterⅣ, analyzed the factors of tourist consumption. After variance analysis and correlation analysis, provides the main factors and causes affecting the citizens of Shanghai tourism consumption. ChapterⅤ, analyzed the income, the time and the distance of tourism consumption flexibility. ChapterⅥ, countermeasures. Proposed to expand the Shanghai residents tourism consumption, specialize in elasticity tourism consumption, fostering the growth of Shanghai tourist consumption market. Chapter Ⅶ, conclusions and discussion. Summarized the main conclusions of this thesis, and proposed research and insufficient research.A number of deficiencies exist in this study. First, the lack of tourism-related data to support product prices flexibility, lack empirical study of tour prices for the Shanghai residents tourism consumption and related impacts. Second, the limited time and manpower to make the questionnaire survey, which some measurements is not much accuracy, so maybe affect the research findings. Finally, because the research is only about the Shanghai residents tourism consumption of the past year, the results can not reflect, on the context of a long time, the people of Shanghai tourism consumption and their flexibility of continuous change. So the long-term tourism consumption elasticity hasn’t be study in this thesis.
