Microbial fuel cell (Microbial fuel cell, MFC) to take advantage of the microbial oxidation and decomposition of the organic compound as a catalyst to generate electricity at the same time, the organic matter in chemical energy directly into electricity, is a new wastewater treatment technology has a wide range of raw materials, the reaction mild conditions, clean and efficient. Because of heavy metal ions in electroplating wastewater directly discharged into the environment, the ecological environment has a lot of harm, and is a waste of information. Heavy metal ions with strong oxidizing and high redox potential, and therefore has the possibility as cathode electron acceptor, the study on the use of wastewater containing heavy metal ions as the the MFC cathode, examine the battery performance and the effect of sewage treatment, which on the practical application of important scientific value and practical significance. In this study, using a two-bedroom MFC device, the use of anaerobic microorganisms as the anode biocatalyst sucrose dubbed analog sewage as anolyte, in order to study the convenience electroplating wastewater since with a single metal ion experiment analysis. First using copper ions as the cell cathode electron acceptor, to determine the feasibility of establishing the MFC, while also inspected graphite, a thin carbon paper and the thickness of the carbon paper as the anode material, respectively the impact on the performance of heavy metal cathode MFC. When the cathode is a copper ion solution, the output power of the graphite and the degradation of organic matter is the lowest when the anode using thick carbon paper MFC obtained maximum power density of 16.3mW/m2 may stable operation for a long time, COD removal up to 60% of the heavy metal waste water can be used as the the MFC cathode, while organic wastewater treatment. To further determine heavy metal cathode liquid MFC production electric performance, the cathode liquid silver ions, copper ions and zinc ions solution as the MFC cathode liquid, its initial concentration were dubbed 1000mg / L. The results showed that the zinc ion as a cathode MFC capacity effect is not ideal, the power density of only 1.9 × 0-6mW/m2. The cathode is a copper ion solution can be obtained when a relatively large the some power the density (13.9mW/m2). Preferably, the capacity effect is silver ion cathode MFC, the current density is 82.7mA/m2 guide to the maximum power density for 23.1mW/m2, and its heavy metal removal is maximum 72%, far higher than zinc and copper ions. Studies have shown that heavy metal ions can be used as a microbial fuel cell cathode electron acceptor, MFC direct chemical organic wastewater can be directly converted into electrical energy, while the heavy metal restore access to both electricity while processing organic waste water and heavy metal wastewater have significant environmental and economic benefits.
