With the development of multimedia and network communication technology, the range of applications for video communications become increasingly widespread. New generation H.264/AVC video coding standard is proposed for video coding and transmission, H.264/AVC uses a new technology has a lot of bright spots, it not only has a high coding efficiency, but also meet the low coding rate and high image quality requirements. These new technologies and highlights that H.264/AVC it ??before the various coding standards have superior compared to the coding performance and a higher coding efficiency, but these is to increase the computational complexity for consideration in return. Motion estimation is an important part in the H.264 video coding, accounted for 80% or more time in the H.264/AVC video coding optimized motion estimation algorithm to reduce the complexity of the motion estimation, motion estimation more efficient, fast, robust is the purpose of this study. This paper first introduces the development status of motion estimation characteristics of H.264 / AVC, technology and performance analysis, followed by the introduction of the basic idea of ??the motion estimation and its theoretical basis, and describes several typical motion estimation algorithm, and finally motion estimation JM10.1 platform to add adaptivity, after analyzing the video optimal motion estimation algorithm for video adaptation of the elected. Add a self-adaptive motion estimation JM10.1 platform is the focus of this article. According to the literature [8] proposed optimization theory to do the following: the original JM10.1 platform UMHexagons algorithm as optimized dynamic search window, improved large hexagonal search pattern and small diamond search mode. Optimization algorithm called IUMHexagons, code implementation, and further experiments in JM platform. Experimental better, the optimized IUMHexagons algorithms intense and complex movement effect is not complicated, but the movement is not dramatic, is not the best. The adaptive video sequence selected optimal movement is estimated to add self-adaptive algorithm, part of this article in the motion estimation, this is the innovation of this paper to so JM10.1 platform. The experiments show that: the improved motion estimation can save the time of motion estimation, to reduce the complexity of the algorithm, and JM10.1 adaptively performing motion estimation, and optimize the efficiency and robustness of the postcoder has a relatively large increase.
