Abstract


Water is the context of the city, the support of the city, and also the soul of the city. Waterfront space supplies the dear water environment and public green space, which is also the carrier of culture, so it is the key point of urban plan and research. Most cold cities in our country are not developed; the special weather and landscape will make peculiar effect on waterfront space construction.The paper firstly introduces the theories about waterfront space, and analyzes the urban waterfront space problems in the cold cities according to current condition. In addition, Picking-up the influencing elements on waterfront space construction and development and discussing the characteristic and its mutual connection, so it gets the foundation for design strategies. Furthermore, the paper discusses and analyzes the design principles and design strategies on the urban waterfront space in the cold cities. And it also gives advice on constructing comfortable space, reasonable functional composition, high efficient traffic, delightful environment, culture atmosphere, various activities. Finally, the paper makes the conclusion from "Jiuzhan---Gonglu Bridge" which is part of the waterfront space in Harbin. It hopes that the paper can make suggestions on constructing waterfront public space in city.
