A Study on the Technical Support of Environmental Programs in the Construction of Green University

It’s a relatively new topic to study the technical support of environmental science in Green University. The construction of Green University demands various supports such as policy support, economic support, technical support, and etc. Building Green Universityis a practice which includes the application of environmental protection, environmental education, sustainable development and other related theories to the campus construction. Environmental programs mainly contribute to the construction of Green University as a technical support.In order to study the technical support of environmental programs in the process of building Green University more clearly, a questionnaire survey method was adopted in this thesis. The survey was launched in 5 universities which took the lead in carrying out the construction of Green University in China, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Tongji University, Wuhan University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. According to the survey results, it is agreed among most people that environmental protection is a very obvious technical support in the construction of Green University.In this thesis, the technical support of environmental programs in construction of Green University is divided into environmental management, environmental education, and environmental technology. These three areas can be further divided into eight sub-areas: environmental consultation from school decision-makers, school curriculum reform, propaganda of environmental protection, open of elective courses on environmental protection, guide of environmental extracurricular activities, environmental science faculty, environmental science laboratory conditions, and environmental professional curriculum system. With the help of AHP, the above areas were sorted as follows: environmental technology > environmental management > environmental education. Among the eight sub-areas, environmental sciences faculty, environmental professional curriculum system, environmental consultation of school decision-makers, and school curriculum reform are most influential. Besides, the specific roles of the above areas were discussed. Finally, the thesis studied the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology , suggesting that the environmental programs should endeavor to advance further improvement in the following four areas to better meet the requirements for Green University: enforcing the policy of introducing talents and enhancing the teaching sources, establishing reasonable professional curriculum, making great effort to conquer key national projects and enriching extracurricular activities for students, and expanding the influence of the program..
