This article attempts to summarize and specify the history of the boycott movements of nationalism in consumption area, which occurred in the modern and contemporary China. At the same time, this article tries to analyze the evolution of this history and explore what is the inner logic of the evolution by the historical study, case study and comparative research. The writer argues that the boycott movements of nationalism are important driving force for establishing modern nation-state in China and are inevitable results of modernity. The boycott movements promoted the development of national capitalism effectively. Modern education system and the mass media popularized the concept of modernity and communicate the ideology of nationalism in the process of individual socialization. Under the context of globalization, the development of the nation-state is no longer an independent event. The relationship of international politics and military, the friction of economic and trade arouse the emergence of the boycott movements in contemporary China. It is a Game between the center and edge in the world, also an extension of political and military struggles in the consumption area. Meanwhile, the ambiguous nationality of the brand, the diversification of consumer choice and the evolution of the media environment make the boycott movements changed dramatically in the object, participators and ceremony. The coordination and tolerance of globalization does not eliminate the geographic boundaries between nation states and mental borders of members in it. Nation-state is still behavioral actor in international affairs, diplomacy, military and economic relation. Under the context of globalization, nation-state members’ identification to the community is stronger and clearer. Nationalism, as the deep-rooted properties of individuals, and boycott movement, not only play an important role in resisting foreign oppression and establishing the nation-state in modern China, but also have significant meaning in adhering the state, society to the individuals, in safeguarding the national dignity, in pursuiting national prestige, and in gaining the international respect.
