Abstract


The video surveillance systems are experiencing an expending developing stage to incorporate different new technologies, such as the Internet technology. In this era of the network video surveillance, NVR will equip itself to access the video system anywhere, which exhibits superior performances in applications. However, there are still many issues that obstruct its wide applications to the current market, and the most obvious one is the compatibility of different systems.To address the openness issue of surveillance devices, we develop a NVR software platform based on the ONVIF protocol, to meet requirements of a project entitled "high-performance x86-based NVR software platform" of Nanjing Nanzi Information Technology Company Limited. ONVIF Protocol is applied to use as the interface among IP cameras、NVR servers and clients, enhancing the open performance of the whole system. Firstly, according to the functional requirements of NVR in a video surveillance system, one introduces the NVR software architecture and the implementation technology of each module. Secondly, one designs and develops an ONVIF specification framework which is built under the Web service standards. Thirdly, VLC media player is used to decode video streams or files, and a pre-allocated storage strategy is proposed for reducing the amount of fragmentation in file system. Fourthly, to have the user to enjoy the experience, GWT is used to create Web pages which can be run in any browser with no plugins required. In the final, the tested performances of the developed NVR client are demonstrated, showing the feasibility of the proposed NVR for engineering applications.
