Abstract


Based on political participation theory, gender theory and the plan-act theory, through the use of questionnaire, case study and the mathematical statistics analysis methods, this thesis sets the rural female groups in L town of Honghu city as the research object and reveals the rural women in politics involved in cognition, attitudes, motives and behaviors. This thesis also investigates the impact from different individual characteristics, economic background and the political social system on political participation behavior of the rural women, and on this basis puts forward policy recommendations for improving rural women’s civil rights, mobilizes the enthusiasm and improve the efficiency of political participation, and which has important theoretical and practical significance for improving rural democracy infrastructure. This thesis is divided into five parts:Part I:Introduction. Problems arise mainly from the background, purpose and significance, literature review, research ideas and research methods, etc.Part II:Political participation theory of rural women. This part includes three theories:political participation theory, gender theory and the attitude-behavioral theory.Part III:The current situation of rural women’s political participation from L town in Honghu city was analyzed. The research results show that their political awareness is at a low level. Due to the influence of traditional feudal thought "men outside, women inside", political apathy, low political identity, less political trust and weak political responsibility appeared in their political participation attitude. The political participation motivation of rural women comes from four aspects:Driven by interests, forced obedience, faith-driven and herd mentality. There are various forms of political participation behaviors, but the overall level is not enough. Besides, organization degree is low for individuals involved in the main, and their participation are daily-life which depend on political communication. The rural women’s political status is not high and their participation behaviors are less effective.Part IV:Analysis on impact factors of rural women’s political participation.The results show that there is a positive correlation between political participation behavior of rural women in L town and their knowledge of the election, economic status, political awareness and political environment.Part V:Conclusions and recommendations. In order to perfect the rural women in civil rights, mobilize the enthusiasm of political participation, improve the efficiency of political participation, better the rural democracy infrastructure, we must strengthen political propaganda to increase rural women’s political knowledge and political cognition level. The development of the rural economy will help improving rural women’s economic status. Besides, institutional arrangements should be strengthen in order to improve the policy and regulation system about rural women’s political participation. And we also should promote advanced culture and create a good environment for political participation.
