Abstract

Based on numerical simulation method, this study was undertaken to evaluate the reason and position of the possible failure in the structure of a certain type of Sink-Style Road by discussing the value and distribution of the internal force of the Sink-Style Road under vehicle loading and temperature variation of a typical hot summer day in this area. Then, several parameters of each structure layers have been changed to analyzing their influence on the internal force of the road structure under vehicle loading and temperature variation. And as consequence, the optimal structural parameters of those two different loading conditions have been confirmed, which could be taken as a possible reference for the design and construction of the Sink-Style Road in the future. The gist and primary new findings of this dissertation includes:1) Pavement structural behaviors under vehicle loadings: a greater shear stress which locates the plan which is perpendicular to both the traffic flow direction and the horizontal plane has been produced due to vehicle loading compared with other five composite stresses, and sliding cracks might be caused by this kind of shear stress; compared to the central vehicle loading, the eccentric loading will create a shear stress with bigger value; in the current structure, the biggest value of this kind of shear stress which attributes to eccentric loading locates at the bottom of the Asphalt Concrete (AC) layer.2) Pavement structural behaviors under temperature variation: A greater tensile stress which parallels the traffic flow direction has been produced due to temperature variation compared with other five composite stresses, and opening cracks might be caused by this kind of tensile stress; the biggest value of this kind of tensile stress due to the variation of high temperature during a hot summer day locates at the bottom of the Continuously Reinforced Concrete (CRC) layer at 16h.3) If just under the role of eccentric loading, the Sink-Style Road which possesses an AC layer with high tensile modulus and 110mm in thickness, a thick CRC layer, a Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete layer with high tensile modulus and 300mm in width and temperature joints with 25mm in width has a lower shear stress in the AC layer which has lower possibility to produce the sliding crack. Also, the simulation analysis indicates that if the thickness of the AC layer is less than 110mm the sliding crack might be produced at the bottom of the AC layer and then they will propagate upward to the top of the AC layer gradually, and if the thickness of the AC layer is more than 110mm the sliding crack might be produced at the top of the AC layer and then they will propagate downward to the bottom of the AC layer.4) If just under the role of temperature variation, the Sink-Style Road which possesses an thick AC layer with low tensile modulus, a thin CRC layer with high tensile modulus and without Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete layer located in, a Continuously Steel Reinforced layer which has a high steel ratio and has a 120mm distance from the bottom of the CRC layer and temperature joints with big width has a lower tensile stress at the bottom of CRC layer which has lower possibility to produce the opening crack.
