Abstract


After a century of development, marine electronic equipment hasstepped into a "boom" period, while the number of ships also reachedunprecedented levels. With advances in technology these new styles ofmarine electronic equipment convenient to improve maritime safety,efficiency and management of maritime managers. IMO (InternationalMaritime Organization), IHO (International Hydrographic Organization),IALA (International Association of Lighthouse Authorities) in recentyears bring up the smart navigation (E-NAVIGATION) strategicplan.Intelligent navigation of the ship is considered as a high priorityissue. This paper ECS (electronic chart system) came into being in thiscontext.The system incorporates AIS, ship navigation, electronic charttechnology and intelligent collision avoidance warning. This paper can bedivided into following parts:(1)The ECS system’introduce of the background and significance,development status, the main functions and system block.(2)Doing a moredetailed discussion about the key technology of theECS system: description of the principles of communication SOTDMA,the algorithm of SOTDMA time slot reservation and the technology ofassociated access;description of GMSK digital modulation methods ;analysis of HDLC communications link controlling technology, anddescription of the principles and benefits of NRZI coding; collisionavoidance technology;electronic chart data optimization and processing;anti-jamming technology; function of VDR; vessel rapid identificationmethods.( 3 ) The specific design of the ECS system. A hardware blockdiagram and some of the core circuit diagram are given, describingthe various components of thefunctions and interfaces.The software ofthe system is divided into two layers (the bottom baseband program andthe pc applications). This article also gives some examples of theapplicationcode and features.(4)The ECS system conducted environmental testing and Electro-Magnetic Compatibility testing. The results meet expectations.
