Abstract


Our country is in a stage of rapid development of urbanization, urban construction is expanding at an unprecedented rate and scale. In the 21st century, China’s urbanization will affect the development of human. The theme "Better City, Better Life" was first proposed during 2010 Shanghai World Expo, its profound connotation and irreversible trend of urbanization are closely related.The emergence of the city presents the trend of rapid development in all aspects of human society, and the urban theme is becoming the main theme of social development. Shanghai World Expo named "city" as the theme offers a variety of new ways of thinking for the future development of the city.Urban culture is a core element of the theme of the city, how to examine their own characteristics in the meaning of urban culture, presentation methods and ways of communication were discussed in each city. Urban culture is one of the main elements composing urban society, which has an important role in promoting urbanization. For example, the Shanghai World Expo strengthened the intensity of inter-cultural exchange, provided a good opportunity for the city to improve their cultural awareness. Meanwhile, as the city’s unique resources, the urban culture will give a big boost for city management and create a brand effect, which is a great significance of the accelerated city development in China. Therefore, it is necessary to research this project in such environment.The Expo enabled interaction of urban culture among different countries, causing people think of urban culture, and further research to be explored and extended to a major vector of urban culture - the city gifts. In this context, more and more people concerned about the city gifts. According to the theoretical study on related design of urban gifts and practice of design investigation, the article used analysis techniques on the framework of design management thinking, to research the city gifts based on urban culture gift, and develop an application-oriented design tool for urban design gifts based on the urban culture. In accordance with the process of order, elements and nodes in the three-axial flow technology systems, using the historical context to resolve of urban culture, using the concept of creative technology, functional innovative technology, form defining technology to determine the positioning element of urban gifts; using radar chart to assess the design quality of urban gifts to enhance the function and value of urban gift design.
