Abstract


All the risks that the financial institutions have faced can be roughly summed up as market risk, credit risk and operational risk. The financial institutions have paid enough attention to market risk and credit risk very early, now they have comparatively ripe technique of risk management, and have established more effective management systems in various financial institutions. But all along, operational risk in commercial banks has not been given sufficient attention, the results caused the occurrence of operational risk cases which led directly to a great loss. The bankruptcy of Barings Bank which is occurred in the 1995 alarmed global financial institutions that operational risk is becoming one of the greatest threats to all of the financial institutions.For our country’s banking industry, the situation of operational risk we faced is not optimistic, since 2005 a series of important operational risk cases tell us that not only the management technique is backward, but the understanding of operational risk is also quite backward, in small and medium banks, these is particularly evident. The research has great significance for understanding the formation of operational risk and their formative causation.It is based on the above, combining of the inspection data and theoretical knowledge, the author analyzed the formative causation of commercial banks’ operational risk, and gave his own suggestions.The thesis consists of six parts, the main contents are as follows:The first part has discussed the purpose, significance, literatures at China and abroad, content, thesis framework and research methods.The second part mainly introduces the basic theory of commercial banks’ operational risk. And it includes the definition, characteristics and classification of commercial banks’ operational risk,.The third part divides the formative causation of commercial banks’ operational risk into internal causation and external causation, and analyzes internal causation through soft factors and hard factors.The fourth part analyzes the external formative causation of the commercial banks’ operational risk.The fifth part analyzes the commercial banks’ operational risk cases.The sixth part is based on the formative causations, and focuses on commercial banks’ operational risk management and coping strategies.The seventh part is the final summary of the research’s results and pointed out that innovation of this thesis and the prospects for future research.Hope that this writing will help to form a theory system of the formative causation of commercial banks’ operational risk and coping strategies, and has some reference value for the construction of commercial bank management system.
