Abstract

The steel back of brake pad is easy to be damaged which has complex shape, high degree of dimensional accuracy and smooth edge. The ordinary way of blanking process can not meet the precision requirements. It needs secondary operations so it increased production time and costs. Fine blanking is an advanced processing method developed on the basis of the ordinary blanking techniques. We could get a highly dimensional precision and a smooth shear Plane and 3D object shapes we need in one blanking. Therefore, fine-blanking technology, is applied to improve the steel back of brake pad quality. It will often result in mold design products of inferior quality because of the complexity of die structure, the die design by experience alone. In order to obtain high-quality fine blanking components, need to repeatedly repair mode to debug these parameters to the elimination of all defects, which virtually created the extension of the production cycle and costs. The finite element method for forming fine-blanking process simulation, can quantitatively give the process parameters on forming process of fine blanking, which can process parameters were optimized. In this paper, rigid plastic finite element method was used and steel back of the fine blanking forming three-dimensional solid geometry model was created. We use the finite elements software DEFORM-3D to simulate the 3D model of the part. To ensure the smooth progress of the simulation, the fine element size was generated on the deformation and shearing zone. In DEFORM software, the Normalized Cockcroft & Latham fracture criterion to prediction of fine blanking and expansion cracks. Analysis of the material in the fine blanking process flow state, and the blank holder, blanking clearance, die fillet, counter force and blank holder force, and other major process parameters on the forming process and outcomes, study plate fine red during the deformation zone at the equivalent stress, equivalent strain and the hydrostatic stress distribution, obtained with the fine blanking process parameters variation of finish section, and the wear of the mold. By using the finite element software to simulate the wear failure of the die, and with calculations based on Archard’s wear model. The material is Cr12MoV. The wear hardness curve, wear coefficient curve and wear force curve of die at the test points were obtained.By the finite element simulation to predict the molding defects, the development of process parameters and mold design to provide theoretical and technical basis, and similar products to the design.
