Used in this study were synthesized by free radical polymerization of n-butyl methacrylate (nBA) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) copolymer PBG, by varying the monomer feed ratio of two (nBA and the molar ratio of GMA 10/1, 9/1 and 8/2) to obtain a series of copolymer product: PBG1, PBG2 and PBG3. For copolymerization two monomer reactivity ratios were studied by infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ( 1 sup> HNMR, 13 sup> CNMR) carried out on the polymer structure characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) determined the molecular weight of the polymer, the epoxy groups in the molecule of the copolymer of the epoxy value was measured. The polymers synthesized in the above modified epoxy resin, respectively, with different copolymer, i.e.: PBG1, PBG2 and PBG3, according to the added amount (weight ratio of the copolymer and the epoxy resin were 5/100 , 10/100, 15/100, 20/100 and 25/100), and the epoxy resin composition of a mixed system of PBG. Studies of polymer type and polymer in epoxy resin content on the cured epoxy resin properties. Determination of the impact strength of the cured epoxy resin, tensile strength and elongation and other mechanical properties of the copolymer investigated the effect of toughening the epoxy resin. While after curing the epoxy resin thermal properties such as: glass transition temperature, Vicat softening temperature, heat loss were studied. Scanning electron microscopy morphology of the cured epoxy resin. In this work, two different types of modified epoxy resin were studied, namely liquid epoxy resin E-44 and powder epoxy E-663. Experimental results showed that: the two types of copolymer resin has a good modification effect, the selection of polymer PBG2, when the content ratio of 5/100-10/100 modified to get the best results. Epoxy T g a significant increase, the heat capacity of deformation also increased. Scanning electron microscopy findings: After adding the copolymer varies epoxy fracture surface, indicating its toughened epoxy realized. The curing kinetics were studied by changing the heating rate during the curing, the curing of several curves obtained. According to the data obtained, respectively, with Kissinger and Ozawa equation curing reaction activation energy was calculated to explore the curing mechanism. This work resulting copolymer toughening for epoxy resins have relatively good results, the reason is: n-butyl methacrylate, poly (nBA) soft segments in the molecule can effectively increase the epoxy resin toughness, while in the copolymer in the curing reaction of epoxy groups in the epoxy resin to form a number of anchor body, weaken the degree of epoxy resin brittle fracture, and thus has a good modification effect. This work for epoxy toughening in the theory and application of some significance.
