Abstract


Pro-social behavior is some kind of helping behavior, altruistic behavior and the other more widely behavior, which is implemented by the individual, and can meet the social expectation, and can bring benefit and positive impact on others and society. As a common social phenomenon, pro-social behavior has a positive influence on human existence and social development. The undergraduates have active thought and behavior, and the state of their pro-social behavior, the important sign of social civilization, has a very high research value. This study has selected 595 undergraduates from 5 universities as the subjects, and investigated the current situation of pro-social behavior and the impact of positive personality traits on it by three studies.In Study 1, 275 undergraduates as the subjects, by questionnaires method, this study has analyzed the overall and each dimension of pro-social behavior, and the difference of them on different situation of gender, discipline, grade and singleton.In Study 2, 160 undergraduates as the subjects, by“Scrambled Sentence test”as priming material and 2x2 between-subject experiment design, the priming type and helping situation as independent variable, and the helping time as dependent variable, this study has searched the impact of positive personality traits on pro-social behavior in common situation and urgent situation under the supraliminal priming.In Study 3, 160 undergraduates as the subjects, by self-made program of“glossary stimulation reaction”as priming material and 2x2 between-subject experiment design, the priming type and helping scene as independent variable, and the helping time as dependent variable, this study has searched the impact of positive personality traits on pro-social behavior in common situation and urgent situation under the subliminal priming.The results of the three studies are as follows:(1) The undergraduates have relatively high level of pro-social behavior. There is a significant difference between genders on overall pro-social behavior. Specifically, there is a significant gender difference on the following dimensions: publicity, altruism, compliance and sentiment; and there is no significant discipline difference on overall, but on altruism dimension; there is on significant singleton difference on overall or each dimension; there is no significant grade difference on overall, but on altruism and urgent dimensions.(2) Under the supraliminal priming, the main effect and interaction effect of the priming type and helping situation are significant. Under positive priming, the helping behaviors of subjects on common situation and urgent situation are remarkable higher than the subjects whom under controlling priming. The positive priming has promoted the pro-social behavior.(3) Under the subliminal priming, the main effect and interaction effect of the priming type and helping situation are significant. Under positive priming, subjects’helping behaviors on common situation and urgent situation are remarkable higher than the subjects whom under controlling priming. The positive priming has promoted the pro-social behavior.
