Abstract

WCDMA terminal tester is used to measure WCDMA terminal equipment’s some important parameters. It can be widely used in WCDMA terminal design, development, production, certification and maintenance and other fields. In the global 3G terminal market, China’s WCDMA mobile phone market share is in dominant position, but we haven’t completely researched and developed the tester independently. The frequency synthesizer which this thesis introduces is the core of WCDMA terminal tester. In this paper, we describe basic theory of frequency synthesis technology andΣ-△modulation theory, and then design a low-power, low stray frequency synthesizer using in WCDMA terminal tester technical parameters. We design the frequency synthesizer system with CX74038 chip as the core. To simplify the circuit structure, we use dual PLL structure, coupling with divider, mixer externally, to realize the 4-way signal output. To reduce system power, optimization of the circuit structure, and focus on the design of RF-VCO and IF-VCO, which works in the 3.3V low-voltage. To reduce the system stray, we usedΣ-△modulation technique to overcome the traditional method of circuit complexity, debugging difficulties deficiencies. Then, we designed loop filter, divider and mixer. Finally, we realized the frequency synthesizer by using ADS simulation software. The results proved that the design of low power frequency synthesizer has low spurious, low phase noise, wide frequency range and high-speed frequency performance.Since WCDMA terminal tester resembles Node-B, so the design of low power frequency synthesizer is also used to UMTS Node-B design. For base station equipment, low power has much more practical and more significant. In addition, the design also has a good effect on other communication systems local oscillator design and application of the chip CX74038.
