In recent years, with the development of communication technology, intelligent measurement and control technology and digital substation technology to break the limitations of the traditional protection systems use local information constitutes protection system, study the use of wide-area information backup protection system is more and more scholars attention. In this paper, based on the analysis and comparison of the structural model of wide-area backup protection to regional centralized structure as a the WAN backup protection structure of this study. On this basis, focusing on the structure, partitions, and based on information fusion technology failed component identification algorithm analysis system. This paper first reviewed the research status of the wide-area backup protection, analysis of the shortcomings of the existing wide-area backup protection algorithm, which in turn leads to the introduction of the idea of ??information fusion technology in wide-area backup protection, the development of information fusion technology and applications status quo.
