Abstract

Graphite has excellent electrical and thermal conductivity properties, is widely used in the field of composite materials , an epoxy resin having excellent corrosion resistance , adhesion properties , high specific strength and are widely used in the resin -based composite material matrix . Graphite / epoxy composite material may be combined with the advantages of both , but the graphite due to the poor compatibility with the epoxy resin , and graphite dispersed in an epoxy resin is poor , and the need for surface-modified graphite . The this article graphite modified with a long chain silicone materials AEM5700 the organic silane coupling agent KH550 modified graphite . First use of concentrated sulfuric acid, concentrated nitric acid, a graphite oxide , and then the KH550 and AEM5700 graphite oxide surface-modified , the modified graphite is dispersed in an epoxy resin , casting molding , having a graphite / epoxy composites prepared and to study the mechanical properties of graphite / epoxy composites and graphite dispersed in epoxy resin . The experimental results showed that : compared with unmodified graphite modified by a silane coupling agent KH550 , the performance of a dispersion of graphite in an epoxy resin preferably , the tensile strength increased from 84.06 MPa to 103.55MPa substantially no change of bending strength changed, compression modulus to 4330.96 from 4107.00 MPa MPa , elongation at break increased from 0.71% to 0.78% . The unmodified graphite , epoxy resin viscosity increases from the initial 1.583Pa.S to 1.887 Pa.s ( 1 wt % is not modified graphite ) and 1.934Pa.S ( 2 ??wt % unmodified graphite ) , modified by KH550 , the viscosity of the epoxy resin is reduced to 1.471 Pa.s ( 1 wt % graphite) and 1.404 Pa.s ( 2 wt % graphite) .
