Abstract

Cognitive Semantics in the 1980s along with the status of linguistic research in semantic gradually improve and become the core of cognitive linguistics, the main research the relationship between words and concepts. Currently, a major interest in cognitive semantics is the study of language and spatial relationships between concepts, namely spatial relationships in the language areas of expression. Since preposition semantic function is to express the basic spatial relations, the role of metaphor and metonymy, the semantics of prepositions from space to expand to other abstract domains, the use of a very wide range. Therefore, this research under the framework of Cognitive Semantics Semantics and idealized cognitive model prototype based on the theory of the preposition in / out and li (li) / wai (outside) prototype semantic meaning and metaphor expanding domains the description and classification, and try to determine from a cognitive perspective and analyze their similarities and differences. Used in this study analyzed all the data from the BNC Simple Search and PKU-CCL corpus, as well as some authoritative dictionary. According to Langacker's shot body - landmark theory, referring to Tyler et al preposition criteria for the classification and associated cognitive linguistics, the study in accordance with the preposition space to expand out of the target domain different classification, draw them to expand out of the target domain The kind and distribution of the frequency calculation. Through qualitative and quantitative analysis, found that when staying in the original space preposition meaning within the context of the use of English and Chinese are basically the same, but li (li) / wai (outside) in the original application in Chinese meaning more cases. When the preposition through metaphor and metonymy when extended to non-space sector, in / out ratio li (li) / wai (outside) the frequency of application of more and more flexible and rich. Further, the present study found ways to expand through the metaphor has become a dominant way, metonymy can be regarded as a special kind of metaphors or metaphors resulting vector. Based on the in / out and li (li) / wai (outside) their analysis and interpretation, we conclude that different countries and cultures, the existence of the same cognitive model. In addition also confirmed through metaphor comes spatial expansion significance has rooted in our everyday experience and everyday knowledge. Results of this analysis can be applied to a certain extent, linguistics and language teaching. In this study, there are some limitations. For example, data collected in this corpus is limited, the expansion of space defined word categories may be somewhat subjective. However, this study compared the use of the English language study and basic daily usage is consistent, but also meet the academic research methods.
