Abstract

Object:Validating the Chinese Version of Essen Trauma Inventory for Kids and Juveniles in order to provide a basis for its utility locally in China.Methods:700 students from the two groups, one was in the earthquake-striken area, another was in the normal community, were surveyed by stratified-cluster random sampling. The CRIES-13, SCARED, CES-D and A-DES was chosen for the criterion validity evaluating. The final version of ETI-KJ in China was developed following the translation and back-translation procedure. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient,constructive validity, discriminate validity, criteria validity were employed for psychometric evaluation.Results:1. Internal consistency of the Chinese version of ETI-KJ is excellent, Cronbachɑof the whole scale was 0.918 and the Cronbachɑof the four subscales (intrusion, avoidance, hyperarousal, dissociation ) were 0.748, 0.789, 0.708和0.753 respectively. The correlation coefficients between various subscales varied from 0.649 to 0.761.2. The correlation coefficient between the items and the total score were all greater than 0.4 and significant statistically(P<0.01) ;the critical value of all the items were greater than 3,and significant statistically(P<0.001) .3. The correlation coefficient between ETI-KJ and CRIES-13, SCARED, CES-D, were 0.674**(P <0.01); 0.631**(P<0.01); 0.526**(P<0.01) respectively; the correlation coefficient between the four sub scales and the total score of ETI-KJ were 0.474-0.681.4. Three factors were extracted by principal factor analysis and renamed as mental handicap /impaired function, intrusion/avoidance, hypersensitive/numb.5.ETI-KJ could clearly discriminated the subjects which came from the earthquake-stricken area from the normal community’s group by the number of the total traumatic events and the extent of the symptom.6.ETI-KJ could clearly discriminated the subjects which have different traits assessing by the SCARED and SOC-13.Conclusions:1.The results indicate that the Chinese version of ETI-KJ is an efficient and convenient self-rating instrument that displays good psychometric properties.2.The ETI-KJ also demonstrated as a good instrument for comparison between different groups of the adolescents.for assessing the traumatic symptoms
