Abstract

The application of virtual prototyping technology in mechanism sim, not only improves simulation technique’s precision, but also narrow the period in product design. It is of important value in engineering applications. In this work, a transmission was taken as a subject, and the key steps and approaches of dynamic simulation of the transmission based on virtual prototyping technology were discussed.Featuring 3D parametric models were constructed which combined feature technology with parametric model based on the wide-applied CAD/CAM/CAE integrated software Pro/e. In accordance with performances of the transmission, the detailed procedure for parametric modelings of the transmission’s main parts, including straight gear, helical gear, and internal gear etc, were elucidated, which may be a reference for engineering design.Assembly modeling followed the 3D parametric model in Pro/e environment, creating a movement analysis in Pro/e for movement simulation of the transmission. During this process, interference inspection was conducted to see the correctness of parameter design of the transmission. This accumulated some knowledge beneficial to the virtual assembly and movement simulation of the transmission.A finite element model for input axis was created based on ANSYS and its static analysis was performed. Equivalent cloud maps of stress and vector displacement were drawn and the strength and stiffness of the input axis were corrected. The first nine inherent frequencies and the correspondent vibration modes were identified by finite element modal analysis, which constituted the bases for resonant response analysis and transient analysis.
