Abstract


Beyond is a famous rock band in Hong Kong in the 1980s and 1990s. Today, Beyond have already become the synonym of Hong Kong rock. Compared to the contemporary pop songs in Hong Kong, Beyond’s lyrics is particularly noticeable because of its unique Ideological and artistic quality. However, the current music industry for his research works are still a lot of gaps.The band and its songs has become the forgotten corners of academic research especially in pop culture research. Therefore,this paper aims to discuss the rich and profound cultural connotations by the analysis on the lyrics of Beyond’s songs in the background of socetiy and history of the 1980s and 1990s.And the paper also lays emphasis on people’s livelihood,social psychology and situation not involved in main ideology and Hong Kong’s pop songs.Paper describes the introduction of the research Beyond and the reasons for writing this article. Papers about the first chapter maily discuss Beyond’s lyrics of Urban depicting, in order to show their deep concern for reality and unique humanistic feelings. The chapter two concentrates on the band’s native cultures that rooted in Hong Kong and original music concept of rock and roll spirit. Chapter III examine the cultural perspective on Beyond’s lyrics,so as to conclude the distinguish features in social records and the matters about taboo subjects. Thus embodies the character and style of the lyrics of Beyond’s songs in social records and consideration for reality.
