Abstract


A series of fatty-amide cationic surfactants with hydroxypropyl and various long tails were synthesized by the reaction of trimethylammonium chloride with alkylolamide glycidol ether. Among which, phase transfer catalyst was used to prepare alkylolamide glycidyl ether derived from the reaction of alkylamine with epichlorohydrin. The structure of all products were confirmed by IR, NMR, MS and elemental analysis. The effects of temperature, mole ratio, reaction time, solvent, catalyst and the loading of catalyst on the reaction have been studied respectively, the optimum conditions was determined.The surface properties and application performance of various length fatty-amide cationic surfactants have been studied, such as Krafft point, surface tension, critical micelle concentration, foaming power, emulsifying properties. All compounds show excellent solubility, and critical micelle concentration reached a minimum of 1.1×10-4 mol/L. Foaming power become weaker and emulsifying properties enhance with the increase in alkyl chain length.
