Abstract


This paper reviews the propagation of Catholicism in Lvliang,proposed some cultural phenomenon when the Catholicism clash with local culture after the Catholic culture enter Lvliang as a foreign culture. Then analysis of this process which the Chinese and Western culture from the conflict to the integration in these phenomenon.This article is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction, analyzed the the research results of the Chinese scholars about activities of Catholicism as a external religious in China, and the research results about activities of Catholicism in Shanxi.The second part is the overview of the activities of the Catholic Church in Lvliang, reviews the process of Catholicism into Lvliang and its activity characteristics Lvliang. Catholicismhas been Lvliang for more than three hundred years, its activities have also formed a certain scale in Lvliang. The distribution of Catholics is rural-based. And because of traffic inconvenience, so it’s ralatively dispersed, there are many small church buildings. Accord the motivation, Lvliang Catholics can be divided into "type of material interests," "type of pray for the blessing ", " type of Environmental Impact " and " type of understand the doctrine".The third section describes the founder of a number of education and charity after a long-time development of the Catholic Church in Lvliang, Education includ the secular education and the theological education, theological education followed the medieval tradition, while the secular education is more flexible. Charities include the building of solitary aged, and the room of feeding.The fourth part is the key part,overviewd the peculiar phenomenon in the localization process of the collision between Catholicism and local cultural when it enter Lvliang:the relationship between Chinese and foreign priests from the "peaceful coexistence" to"intensification of conflicts ",and finally Chinese priests won the right of self-management of the Church; "Fenyang diocese" as the first national parish of China, after many long and hard work with the help of some foreign missionaries,the local parish was born; in the integration of Catholic culture and the local culture, the Catholicism constitute a significant impact to the daily life of Christians, and secondly,from the perspective of architectural culture, the style of Catholic Church varied after Catholicism entered Lvliang,the overall style and architectural details of the church all have the Lvliang local factors.The fifth part is the conclusion of the paper,first,conclud the meaning of the localization of the Catholicism,then analyzed the reason of why the the Catholicism can localize.Bdcause the impact between two different culture is mutual,so in the process of the catholic culture assimilated by the Lvliang culture,its impact to the Lvliang culture is also noteworthy.
