Abstract


The subjects involved in the study were female Javelin Throwers come from Shandong Province Track and Field Team.7 of them are recognized as National Top Class Athletes and 4 of them are recognized as National First Class Athletes. Research methods in this study including method of paper reviews, video analysis, observation, evaluation and statistical analysis. Functional Movement Screen (FMS), technique analysis, strength and conditioning status analysis were used in order to identifying their weakness in training. Proper training protocols were implemented for the sake of correcting their weakness. Conclusions of this study are as follows:First of all, all subjects were shown excellent hip, knee and ankle stability and mobility. Good shoulder and hip flexibility were also noted. Some subjects shows muscle imbalance in two sides of their body. One common problem was poor core stability bad back extending range of motion.Secondly, elite female javelin throwers in Shandong province show large backward incline angle, too big steps were also shown in the first and second steps of approaching. All those factors result in bad biomechanics in their techniques.Thirdly, javelin throw is a event emphasizing on power. However, in their strength training section there are less 10% of time conducting power training. Also fewer core stability exercises were there in their training program. More functional training was recommended.In conclusion, training program must highlight individual’s needs. All subjects were experiencing fewer injuries as well as better javelin throw performance. Lingwei Lee won the silver medal in 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.
