Abstract

Physical Education (PE) at school is the most important part of the all-round development of education and the key element for cultivating the talents demanded by the society. PE is also the major part of the school education. The report by Mr. Yang Guiren, director of the department of PE, Health and Arts of Ministry of Education proves that the development of PE at school is prominent while the impending task and development priority of PE is evident.This paper tries to know the current teaching situation of Xinxiang’s Provincial High School through fact finding and collecting of real data in details to find out the problems of sports playgrounds and facilities, faculties’quality, classroom teaching and extracurricular teaching. Through contrasting and analysising of the problems, we can find the related factors of influencing the sports teaching, analyze the main reasons and put forward the corresponding solutions in order to offer some information during the time when the education department is establishing some measures or improving the current situation of Xinxiang’s sports teachings and try the best to offer some references for the similar cities.The paper adopted the methodologies such as literature material method, expert interviewing, questionnaire, statistics, and site observation to investigate the PE teaching development status of the provincial major senior high schools of Xinxiang. The focuses are the status of the PE teaching facilities, faculty status, class teaching, and extra-curriculum activities. Through the analysis and the comparison with those of the similar cities, the paper found the difference and analyzed its shortcomings. It has been found that the provincial major senior high schools of Xinxiang have the following problems. Firstly, the current PE facilities cannot meet the students’need. Secondly, the teachers’ personality is not desirable (which is fully illustrated in the paper), so it cannot catch the students’attention. Thirdly, the PE class is not creative enough to attract the students, affecting the students’ activeness. Fourthly, the extra-curriculum activities are not rich in form, and the time is not adequate. Based on these problems, the paper proposed some suggestions:Firstly, in accordance of the real need, the PE facilities should be increased in number and in kind to cater for the students’need. Secondly, the PE teachers’quality should be enhanced, so is their personality and the teaching capacity and organization. Thirdly, the contents of the teaching should be enriched, so does the organization and the quality of PE and Health teaching. Fourthly, the inter-school competition should be highlighted so as to intensify the communication between the teacher and the student so as to improve the teacher’s capacity of developing students’ active learning.
