Abstract


Aging population, a symbol of economic progress, is the trend of age structure that can’t be avoided in social development. After World WarⅡ, the problem becomes more and more highlighted. So far, it has been a common problem for the world to fully understand the population aging itself and respond sorts of accompanying challenges. Governments and experts around the world are also paying much higher attention to the problems with deeper researches in homologous theories and literatures.In 1999 China realized the transformation of age structure from adult—type to the senior—type. The proportion of elderly population comes to the international standards. Hence, accelerated population aging befell China in the new millennium. Jilin Province, one of the provinces those first implemented the family planning policy, has its own aging—population characteristics. Jilin Province became an aging society in 2003. The rapid aging population has become the biggest challenge of "12th Five—Year Plan". We must understand the status and characteristics of aging population in Jilin Province, and then analyze the causes. These are the base of formulating sound policies and meeting challenges. Therefore, the status quo of population aging is described at the beginning of this article, and then the current features of Jilin Province through the comparison Jilin Province’s level with the national level are analyzed. On this basis, the demographic factors of Jilin Province are summarized. Finally, countermeasures and suggestions are raised in order to face the challenges.This thesis is divided into four parts:The first part is introduction, describing background, significance of the topic, the progress of aging population home and abroad, and research methods used here. Finally, the concepts of the proportion of senior citizens, median age and aged—dependency ratio, etc, are defined.In part—2, the history, status and features are elaborated in detail. Since the 1940s, Jilin experienced the history of population structure change process. Jilin province became an ageing society in 2003 and accelerated it in 2005. Senior population increase year by year and the population aged over 65 increases faster. This shows aging has a much longer trend towards development. In the final, the characteristics of aging of Jilin province are analyzed:the elderly population growth faster than population growth. Aging cities level than in rural areas, the aging staying ahead of the current economic level.The part—3 analyzes the demographic reasons causes of the aging population of Jilin province. Fertility decline is the most main factors; secondly mortality decline caused both the positive and negative effects. The population migration level is low, the overall impact of aging without form. But it plays a significant role in promoting population aging of YanBian.The part—4 aims at tackling the population aging in Jilin Province.Jilin population aging has become reality. The population aging will further influence the social, economic and cultural life. We must attaches great importance to this problem and explore the most reasonable deal with policy. Only in this way, can we promote Jilin economy and development fast and well, and then realize the 12th Five—Year Plan.
