Abstract


The rising of Internet and the explosion of information brings to the user not only a flood of information resources, but also makes it difficult for users to obtain the required information quickly and accurately from the vastness and boundless ocean of information. Academic library’s primary mission is to provide and organize the service of discipline information resource for the user. Academic library website as a information portal of library, it carrying the responsibilities to provide users with comprehensive information resources, unified user interface and all-dimensional information service. The face of various types of complex information, information type and the changing needs of users, Academic library website could be built and improved the structure of information through Information Architecture theory with realistic significance, information architecture theory provides method for academic library website, it bases on the clearness and comprehensibility of information, realizes good information organization and service, To make the information architecture theory as the basic link to build academic library website, Be advantageous to design and build the information portal website which meet consumer’s demand most.In this thesis, academic library website as a subject investigated, according to the related theory and method of information architecture, Investigating and analyzing the information architecture state and actual problems in academic library website, and put forward some improvement suggestions of website bases on user needs-oriented.This paper includes six parts:Chapter I briefly illustrates the background and significance of topics, research method and status.Chapter II discusses the methods, process and core elements of the relevant theory of information architecture.Chapter III analyzes the functions, characteristics and users of the academic library websites.Chapter IV discusses the information architecture design proposal of academic library websites in details, analyzes the information architecture of organization system, labeling system, navigation system, search system, interaction system and interface.Chapter V analyzes and compares information architecture conditions of Central China Normal University library website and the University of Miami Otto G. Richter library website, make this thesis has practical significance.Chapter VI conclusions.
