Abstract

For the difference between different enterprises in the field of strategic management, there have been two theories. The traditional school of industrial organization structure behavior paradigm (SCP paradigm), the differences between enterprises attributed to the characteristics of the industry, and the resource base scholars argue that the differences between enterprises due to different companies have different strategic resources. In 1972, Professor Hunt first proposed the concept of \M.Porter (1979) on top of Hunt's research, a complete set of strategic group theory, has laid a solid foundation for the study of strategic groups. At the same time, scholars of strategic group continues to heat up, a strategic group multiple industry competition pattern analysis tools and performance differences obtained without consistent research results. China's banking reform and opening up in the late 1970s to date from the last century, has gone through three stages of market-oriented reforms, the success achieved by the \improved. Due to historical reasons, large the congenital scale of China's four state-owned commercial banks, the number of branches, has been occupying the leading position in the industry, in recent years, along with the deepening of financial reform, the sudden emergence of the joint-stock banks and city commercial banks, has developed rapidly. In such a historical stage, the competitive landscape of China's commercial banking presence or absence of change, whether there is a strategic group, like other industries, strategic groups impact on firm performance This article wants to study. Firstly sort out a lot of theoretical literature in the field of strategic groups, and strive to the stage of development of the research in the field, the theoretical support of the strategic groups associated with related fields presented. Meanwhile, strategic groups \On this basis, this paper proposes a research model and assumptions, then to China's 14 listed commercial banks as research sample, select the appropriate strategic dimension and measure the variables of each dimension of the strategic use of cluster analysis for strategic group division, in order to test the commercial banking industry in China is real strategic groups. Been confirmed, we selected three indicators to measure the performance and long-term performance, financial performance and non-financial performance as a performance variable, one-way ANOVA test strategy group and corporate performance is relevant. Finally, the paper concludes that China's commercial banking sector there is indeed a strategic group, the impact of the strategy group by variable resource base class variable, and strategic group clustering closely related to the nature of the various commercial banks. But, overall, we did not find a strategic group there is a significant impact on business performance, the commercial banks to raise the level of performance, more should proceed from their core competitiveness.
