Abstract


PurposeTo investigate the Protective Effects of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors Captopril and Membranaceus on extracorporeal shock wave induced kidney damage.Material and MethodsA total of 90 patients with renal pelvis or caliceal stones undergoing anesthesia-free extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL)without auxiliary measures was randomly assigned to three groups. One group received no medication. The second group received Captopfil. The third group received Captopfil and Membranaceus.Captopfil(25 mg. each)was given orally 3 times a day for a total of4 days beginning 3days before ESWL. The third one was given Captopfil and Material, likely the second one. To assess renal function the urinary excretions of cystatinC (Cys-C) were determined by Enzyme—Linked Immunosorbent Assay, ELISA. Change in the level of the indicator aboved was compared in 24 hours after ESWL.ResultThe results were not significantly different regarding the condition of patients and lithotripsy treatment among the groups. Baseline levels of the urinary excretions of cystatinC were not statistically different among the groups. After ESWL there was asignificant increase in urinary in cystatinC. ConclusionsCaptopril could inhibit Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme, antagonist the plasma endothelin and scavenge the geoxygen free radical. HIF-1αis involved in the kidney injury induced by ESWL, Astragalus Membranaceus alleviates kidney injury through reducing the expression of HIF-1α.So the junction of the two medicines above will alleviates kidney injury.
