Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of the non-alcoholic Wernicke encephalopathy , increase awareness of the disease , reduce misdiagnosis . Methods A retrospective analysis January 1995 December 2010 First Affiliated Hospital , 12 patients with non-alcoholic Wernicke encephalopathy clinical features, imaging , diagnosis and treatment outcomes , and review of the literature . Results 12 patients have varying degrees of mental or disturbance of consciousness, and varying degrees of diplopia, nystagmus or ataxia symptoms, only 25% of patients with typical performance of the \8 patients underwent brain CT scan showed no abnormalities . 8 patients underwent brain MRI examination revealed seven cases T2WI and FLAIR display of abnormal signal near the midline structure symmetry , 4 cases enhanced MRI scan revealed a significantly enhanced . A total of 11 patients were given supplemental vitamin B 1 < / sub > treatment , 1 patient was not given vitamin B 1 < / sub > treatment . 4 cases were cured , 8 patients had varying degrees of side - effects . Conclusion non- the alcoholic Wernicke encephalopathy early lack of characteristic clinical manifestations , easily misdiagnosed , any malnourished patients is difficult to explain consciousness or mental symptoms , you should consider the disease may be . MRI examination has important diagnostic value . Replenish VitB 1 is the key to the treatment of this disease .
