Along with the urbanization and migration in China, Housing Complex has been the main type of the urban residence. Cities have to face the discrepancy between the habitation demand and the reality, and the residential division which becomes more and more obvious. Further more, they will face the aging housing problem, for now China has one step into the list of aging society. Zhongshan locates in Pearl River Delta, with a population of 4.5 million in the central city. Compared with cities around, such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, the smaller population and lower density make it possible that the Zhongshan people own more residential space. For the Chinese Economic Reform carry out, lives there have improved smoothly (obviously different from the Dongguan mode); social cultural is influenced by the Hongkong and Macau ones, but still keeps the local tradition pretty well; the public housing policy reform carried out by the government since the 80s, has greatly benefit the residential situation for the society; more and more family transform into the Code mode, and face the fact that the only‐child get married, leave the family and the aging people’s nursing problem. Impacted by the factors mentioned above, the residential form of the Zhongshan city presents great local character. Recent years, the government proposes to build a habitable city. Supported by this policy, the existing habitant condition, the traditional family living idea, and the future trend, the Zhongshan city is capable to take one step forward, to face up the housing demand for the home‐based care in the aging society tomorrow.This thesis is composed of 4 parts. Part 1 is an introduction of the purpose, the value of this research, and the meaning of the Form of Living Space of Housing Complex, by defining the research boundary in aspect of Time, Zone and Content. Part 2 is the summary about the Form of Living Space of Zhongshan city during the past 30 years. This part is based on the investigation and analysis of over 100 dwelling layout. Part 3 is the analysis of how factors, which are Economic, Social Cultural, Policy and Government Volition, and the Family Structure, influence the Form of Living Space. Part 4 is a conclusion of how the Form of Living Space developed. Drawing on the experience of ethnic Chinese aging cities, such as Hongkong, and based on the survey about the living volition of local people, the thesis suggest a multi‐generation living mode for the future.
