Abstract


There were drastic changes in modern times. China was modernized in politics, economy, ideals, social life and so on. It also influenced the charity in the northeast regions which had happened unprecedented reform. That is the research object of this article, and the author attempts to analyze its development background, development survey as well as its characteristics and the social impact, in order to provide reference and enlightenment to the society’s charity nowadays. This paper discusses time range from 1840 to 1949, expounds the space range is mainly northeast. This paper is mainly divided into five parts:Introduction:this section mainly describes the significance of this topic, research current situation, research ideas and the important points and difficulties and innovative points etc.Part two:This part analyzes the background of charity in modern northeast China, mainly including the northeast of historical geography and natural disasters, the political environment and the economic conditions, and the influence of the western thought and practice of charity. Through the analyses of the backgrounds, we can understand the whole social environment to face up to the development of northeast China charity and characteristics.Part three:This section is on the phased development of philanthropy discussed, roughly divided into four periods:the first period is before the Japanese-Russia War (1840 before 1904). And the second period is from the Japanese-Russian War to the foundation of R.O. C. (1904-1912). And the third period is from the foundation of R.O. C. to the Mukden Incident (1912-1931). The fourth period is from the Mukden Incident to the foundation of the P. R. C (1931-1949).Part four:This section has two main contents; the first analyzes the main characteristics of Northeast China. The first feature of the charity development in Northeast China is slowly developing. The main reason is that there is sparsely populated. Once it encounters hazards, it may depend on the nature of the adjustment ability to lighten disasters so that the charity development space is limited. On the other hand, the Northeast was exploited so late that the local economy is weak, and this restricted the development of charity. The second feature is that it produced the earliest Chinese Red Cross. The third feature of the charity of the Northeast is unbalanced developing. The second content of this part analyzes the influence of Northeast China charity to improve the quality of the people, to promote the expansion, to promote the development of the medical and health services and progress of modern education, to alleviate social contradictions, to stabilize social order.Part five:Conclusion part mainly summarizes this article to hope to give some inspiration to today’charity.The author not only makes a comprehensive grasp to the Northeast region’s charity in terms of macroscopic angle, but also analyzed some microscopic phenomenon on the Northeast area charity, such as the relief to the refugees who passed through the east in modern time, the earliest Chinese Red Cross organization, and the establishment of modern public health and anti-epidemic, in order to show modern philanthropy in Northeast China.
