Abstract


Based on the experience and understanding of nowadays college watercolor landscape teaching, I can draw a few conclusions that teachers generally devote more of their time on teaching around shaping, color, material, brush and other aspects. But, they ignore the selection of views and the composition of a picture. Even though that are involved, teachers mostly focus on discussing their own experience on painting and some superficial knowledge. As for the selection of views and the composition of a picture, we haven’t done in-depth research, let alone form a relatively comprehensive theoretical system. The reason is that we never thought about the selection of views and the composition of a picture from characteristics of watercolor painting and the relation between the selection of views and the composition of a picture in a deep way. So, I am concerned especially about these problems in my postgraduate years and do some research and thinking on the selection of views, the composition of a picture and the relation between them. This passage shows some achievements of the research and I hope that there will be some reference values to the teaching and creation of watercolor landscape painting.At first, the paper briefly introduces relative concepts about the selection of views and the composition of a picture. Thus, readers can have a general idea of knowledge in this aspect. Then, through analyzing the relation between them, the paper reveals that the selection of views and the composition of a picture are interrelated and inseparable from each other. The right selection of views can provide useful materials for layout. And, mastering skills of composition can offer an important guideline for the right selection of views. Both of them decide the performance of a picture.The following paper lays importance on the way to select a view and compose a picture in watercolor landscape painting. Based on commonly used ways about the selection of views and general rules or principles of layout, these sections mainly choose Characteristics of watercolor for cuts into the spot to make further analyses of the problems. On the one hand, there are similar ways between watercolor and other painting art about the selection of views and composition of a picture. On the other hand, the characteristics of watercolor have determined the particularity about this problem. Especially, we should give abreast of the particularity.At last, on the basis of the author’s personal experience, the paper introduces some ways that watercolor painters can improve their skills about selection of views and the composition of a picture. To improve the skills, at first, teachers should correct guidance and then students should be more learning from the experience of other painters, ready to be a sharp observer and thinking and have more practice. Only by doing this, we can choose views suited to the theme of this picture in a complex environment and show the proper space and the special artistic conception in a picture. Using point, line and plane, we can also show the rhythm and beauty of nature. It has learnt from experience that improving skills of selection of views and the composition of a picture in watercolor painting are depended on a correct theoretical guidance and our long-term unremitting efforts.
