Abstract

Margaret Mitchell, an Amerian female writer,was famous as her only novel "Gone with the Wind" in American literature feild in 1930s.Soon after that,the translated version of "Gone with the Wind’——"Piao" was famouse in China and also caused different reflections in Chinese literature feild.From the perspective of translation study of comparative literature, depending on the cultural theories:accepting aesthetics, pollysystem theory and hermeneutics,this thesis had a study on the two Chinese versions of the American novel" Gone with the Wind" Since the 1960s, the view of translation studies gradually turned to cultural field.This change widened the field of translation studies. In this academic trend’s guidance, it is meaningful to study the translation strategies of the two Chinese versions of the novel "Gone with the Wind" from cultural veiw. This thesis can be divided into three chapters.In the first chapter,the author introduced the novel "Gone with the Wind" ’s translation process and people’s reflection to it on research and academic feild. In the second chapter,the author used closed-reading methodology to classify the phenomenon of "domestication" that existed in "Piao" which translated by Mr Fu Donghua in 1940s.At the same time,the author used hermeneutics, accepting aesthetics and polysystem theory to analyse "domestication" translation strategies that Mr Fu Donghua used in "Piao". In the third chapter,on the basis of the translated version "Piao" that translated by DaiKa、Li Yeguang and Zhuang Yichuan in 1990s,the author classified the phenomenon of "alienation".Meanwhile,the author compared the"alienation" translation strategy with the "domestication" translation strategy and applying accepting aesthetics, pollysystem theory and hermeneutics,the author proved that the "domestication" translation strategy that used by the translator is reasonable. Based on the dynamic and static text comparative study,the thesis showed that cultural factors in translation activities play a very important role. So in literature translation,we can not neglect cultural factors and judge the translated versions just by languages transfer’s honesty- or- not standard simply.
