Abstract


BAQ (Block adaptive Quantization) is one of the standard algorithms on Synthetic Aperture Radar data compression at present, and is extensively used because of the advantages such as high speed, simplicity, low requirement on hardware.As a mature and extensive used compression algorithm, BAQ stands lots of space flight test. But the assessment methodology and assessment result about the effect of BAQ data compression on SAR image quality have not been found in abroad public document and papers, because SAR satellite has a particular application area.This paper studied on BAQ data compression algorithm and evaluated the effect of BAQ data compression on SAR image in a project based on internal theory achievement and computer simulation experiment. Firstly, it presented a deep theory analysis on BAQ data compression, and introduced the present development of BAQ. Secondly, it introduced theory system on SAR image quality index, and proposed a corresponding scheme to assess the effect of BAQ on SAR image in a real project. Based on that, engineering experiment was carried out, the experiment data was analysed in this paper, and results were achieved. Finally, with those analysis and results it comed to conclusion in the engineering system.
