Abstract


In the era of knowledge economy, knowledge is gradually replacing traditional factors of production, such as capital, labor and land, as the most important resource for enterprise development. Intellectual captital undoubtedly plays a key role in business performance. To commercial banks which engage in financial service, intellectual captital is becoming the soul of their development step by stey. To some extent,intellectual capital is not the source of productivity of commercial banks, but also the determinants of value creation of commercial banks. Rational view of the intellectual capital in the value creation process and the usage of scientific evaluation framework and methods will improve the efficiency of intellectual capital of commercial banks. It also has important practical significance in improving performance of commercial banks.Firstly, this article reviewed studies at home and abroad and evaluated them . On the basis of these studies the article works out the concept of intellectual capital and explains the basic theory related to intellectual capital, including enterprise resource-based theory, core competence theory, human capital theory, new growth theory. After analying the methods of measuring intellectual capital, this article choose VAIC to measure intellectual capital. Secondly, this article defined concepts of performance of commercial banks and evaluation of performance of commercial banks, analyzed advantages and disadvantages of some evaluation methods and chose Component Analysis as the evaluation method. Thirdly, learning from the related research method and conclusion in foreign literature and making combination with our specific background, this article put forward the research hypothesis , how intellectual capital affect commercial bank performance. On the basis of VAIC, VAIP, HCE, SCE, RCE, CEE are the explaining variables , commercial bank performance is the induced variable, scale of commercial banks and asset-liability ratio are control variables. Fourthly, in the demonstration part, we establish regression model and inspect the relationship between intellectual capital and commercial bank performance. As a result, we find that intellectual capital and human capital are significantly influencing commercial bank performance. But structural capital,relational capital and financial capital do not have an obvious influence on commercial bank performance.According to the conclusion, this article put forward some suggestion regarding how to improve the performance of commercial bank performance: strengthen management of human capital, put emphasis on cultivation of structural capital, pay attention to utilization of relational capital, develop all the capitals of commercial banks. At the same time, this article also point out shortingcoming of this research.
