Abstract

Iron-base magnetoelastic materials is a kind of information function material. In this paper, the Giant Magnetostrictive Materials have been fabricated with arc-melting , melt-spun methods and bonding treatment. Structure, magnetic properties and magnetostriction have been investigated with XRD, Vibrating Sample Magnetometer, multi-putpose magnetic properties measure techniques and metallographic microscopy.Studies on magnetostriction properties and bonding process of Terfenol-D were discussed in this paper. Results showed that its magnetostriction properties had been greatly influenced by both the binder proportion and compation pressure, and its maximum appeared when the binder proportion is 15% and a compation pressure of 150MPa. The behavior can also be apparently enhanced by isostatic compaction process.Experiments on improving the uniformity of bond samples had been carried out, laminate compacting process and reconstruction process of fracture surface were inventied for preparation of bond samples with large size.Studies on PrxTb1-xFe1.9By alloys show that RFe3 phase had been effectively restricted with the addion of B, PrxTb1-xFe1.9B0.3 melt-spun ribbons are fabricated by the single-roll technique. All the ribbons are the MgCu2-type phase even when the content of Pr reaches to 0.3. Some kinds of the proportion specimens show a high coercive force by the addition of B.Studies on Pr0.3Tb0.7Fe1-xMnx and PrxTb1-x(Fe0.6Co0.4)1.9 alloys show the substitution of Mn and Co for Fe makes it easier for Pr to replace Tb. The Curie temperature of alloys decreasing as the content of Mn increased. Large magnetostrictions of 1900ppm at 900kA/m for Tb(Fe0.6Co0.4)1.9 alloy were obtained, which can be a kind of excellent refill of Terfenol-D.
