Abstract

The speed control technology is the most important part of electrical propulsion. The advantage of the application of AC motor (ex. Synchronous Motor, Permanent Magnetic Motor, Asynchronous Motor etc.) in Naval Vessel propulsion is getting bigger because of it has high efficiency, small volume, high stability , is maintenance-free, and more easily to be concealed. Taking into account the state of its development both home and abroad, it seems that AC electrical propulsion is taking the place of DC electrical propulsion as the vessel motive power. The AC motor speed control technology, has been widely put into practice in the civil domain, and been technically mature, especially in the field of small and medium power. However, the AC motor speed control technology is far from being used with skill in the military domain and the desire has been stronger and stronger for the application of the AC motor speed control technology in vessel propulsion.Based on the situation issued above, this paper features on the research of Multi-phase Three Level Converter Technology for vessel propulsion. The optimal main power circuit is selected by the comparison among multi-phase three level converter and other converters. The research of control strategy for multi-phase three level converter is carried out in this paper and there is simulation result to improve the perfect practicability of three level control strategy and the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) generation method. Finally in the paper is introduced the physical simulation project of 12-phase three level speed control system for synchronous motor.
