Abstract


The birth of Internet Protocol version 6 solved the problem of internet address exhaustion.Besides this, IPv6 enhances IPv4 in many ways, and speeds the development of the internet. An IPv6 address has a length of 128 bits, and it brings in a lot of new conceptions, such as scope and status. These make it much harder to manage IPv6 addresses on switches. With the further spreading of IPv6, technology about how to manage IPv6 addresses on switches is ugently needed.This essay uses switches which are widely deployed as the platform,stand on actual appliance,study deep into protocols about IPv6 and programming on Linux system. On this basis,I finished the design and implementation of IPv6 address management system. And the stability and compatibility to similar products are verified by a great number of tests.First, I studied deep into protocols such as routing,ND,DHCP,VRRP and many others base on IPv6 protocol specifications, after this,I found out IPv6 address management played an important role in the protocol stack, clarified the relationship of address management and other neighbour modules;Second,I designed the implementations of IPv6 address management on switches,deviding the whole system into four levels,defined some key data structures,and finished drawing sequence diagram for main progresses; third, I designed a data structure and searching algorithm combined radix tree and Hash table for IPv6 address storage which supplyed the system with stable and efficienct operating basis;at last,the system was implemented,after plenty of tests on switches in many kinds of complicate environment,I was sure about the system’s correctness,stability and efficiency.I think deploying of the switches which using my IPv6 address management design will promote the development of IPv6 internet,and it will brings experience of higher quality to people.
