Abstract

The emulsion pressure sensitive adhesive is developed fast because of unused solvent, no pollution, operating expediently. It’s defects are the low cohesion force, bad resistance to water, low racking strength and so on, so the properties of emulsion pressure sensitive adhesive need to be improve further. In this thesis, silicone modified polyacrylate emulsion was prepared via seeded emulsion polymerization. As organosiloxane has large Si-O bond energy, low surface energy, the acrylate resins modified with these monomers can show better performance.By using techniques of delaying addition of organosilicon monomer and a hydrolysis inhibitor, the hydrolysis and condensation of 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate during polymerization can be effectively prevented. And by the reactivity of the reactive emulsifier 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS), the adhesive bonding properties and water resistance of PSA were investigated. The results indicate that the reactive emulsifier has been reacted to a large degree and it has a great effect on the properties of PSA.The effect of surfactant system, initiator, temperature, functional monomer, ratio of acrylate and content of siloxane on the stable polymerization process were investigated, therefore, the basic processing parameters and production formula were determined. The composition and properties such as particle morphology, particle size and its distribution of the obtained silicone-acrylate latex were characterized. Adhesion properties were assessed by peel and holding power and tack adhesion testing in accordance with MPTS mass. The result showed that when MPTS mass fraction is 1%, the copolymers prepared by emulsion polymerization possess excellent performance.
