Abstract


Architectural heritage recording was recognized as an essential work for heritage conservation by ICOMOS charters. So this paper is aimed at bringing an international view to Chinese architectural heritage protection theory and practice through introducing the recording of architectural heritage in the United Kingdom by reading and analyzing the authoritative documents after a lot of collection and interpretation work.In this research, the historical development, management system, information share and document recourse of the recording in United Kingdom are introduced first, and then the recording philosophy and operations is presented by studying and analyzing the typical documents in three levels-the basic principle level, the practical guidance level and the technical specification level. A case is chosen to show the whole process through the recording preparation phase, the field-work phase and the off-site work phase. At last, by putting forward three parts of the recording and analyzing them, the approach of recording in the United Kingdom presenting the characteristic of standardization is obtained as this paper’s final conclusion.
