Abstract


Historical teleplay is a work of art based on important people and events in history. It has played an important role in mainland’s TV circle since 1990’s. Its concept and type is differentiated by two criterions, namely history trueness and art trueness.Since 1980’s, mainly based on history, Hunan has presented a certain number of Historical teleplays, including Putting Down Bandits in Wulong Mountain, Princess Huanzhu, Yongzheng Dynasty, Qianlong Dynasty, Extraordinary Citizen, Approaching Republic, When We Were Young, Ming Dynasty, Western Hunan in Blood, most of which build up a reputation. Historical teleplays made or participated by Hunan lead this industry in China and has its unique style. In the background of Hunan TV rising, there must be a factor of region culture leading to success of Hunan’s historical teleplays.To research flourishing modern history of Huxiang culture, it is revealed that Huxiang culture include many characteristics of political elite culture such as statecraft ideology, patriotism, taking the lead and worrying about the world. Hunan historical teleplays make a feature of these characteristics. With resort to passion on history and politics, Hunan people present a unique understanding of historical people and events with modern consciousness and modern spirits.Teleplay Putting Down Bandits in Wulong Mountain reveals production client of seeking historical trueness; Princess Huanzhu manages catharsis of mass feeling by teasing history; Approaching Republic breakthrough traditional concepts of figuring historical people; When We Were Young praises ideals in postmodern context; Ming Dynasty 1566 constructs a moral monument surpassing officialdom Yamato-e; Western Hunan in Blood presents a blending of Anti-Japanese theme and courage and uprightness of western Hunan’s people. By analyzing concrete cases, in the way of narrating strategy, figuring people and carrying forward theme, this paper inspects, lightened by Huxiang culture, Hunan teleplays’characteristics of creation idea, creation process, and creation style, reveals of historical teleplays’steps in Hunan and reasons for its success and reflects existing significance of historical teleplays in contemporary society.
