Abstract


ErYa(爾雅) is the earliest gloss monograph in our country,which saved substantial glosses since ZhouQin(周秦),it is the collection of glosses in ancient books before Western Han Dynasty. Researching on ancient documents was very popular in Qing Dynasty,so did the study on ErYa (爾雅),there came out a lot of famous scholars and many far influential books.Among them, Yan Yuanzhao(嚴元照) who was form Zhejiang in Qian-Jia(乾嘉) Times was very special in the research on YaXue(雅學):Yan suffered from the disordered characters in ErYa(爾雅),so he used ShuoWen JieZi(説文解字) to correct the wrong characters in ErYa(爾雅),or find the original character.Finally,on the basis of these,he wrote a book about the characters in ErYa(爾雅)named ErYa KuangMing(爾雅匡名),which gained a lot of praises.In addition,Yan studied the rules in ErYa(爾雅),which was in another book YuQin YaYan(娛親雅言).This article is mainly based on ErYa KuangMing(爾雅匡名) and YuQin YaYan(娛親雅言) as well as the other books written by Yan,then pick out the contents about his research on ErYa (爾雅) and give a clear and exhaustive description on his method as well as contents etc.Firstly,the contents of his research on ErYa(爾雅),included correcting the characters, correcting other opinions,analyzing the relationship between characters,the rules in ErYa(爾雅).Secondly,the method to research ErYa(爾雅) used by Yan,which is expressed from two aspects:from the contents of his study,including the finding the right or original figure,keeping the similarities and differences between the ancient documents,and correcting the mistakes made during the curving;from the way of collation,Yan used four ways to collate ErYa(爾雅).Thirdly,give a summary on Yan’s achievement and shortage in his research.
