On the Modern Writing of Self-survival in Mu Shiying’ Novels

Abstract


As an important writer of New Sensational School in thirties of last century, Mu Shiying created a novel world filled with a thick modernism atmosphere. In his works, Mu Shiying showed the figures’mental state which is publicity or exhausted, holy or decadence, then revealed the self-survival experience and the living environment. I analyze from the perspective of self-survival. First of all I reveal the survival dilemma in the novels, and then carry out psychoanalytic on the characters as well as the writer himself, and finally analyze the modern novel forms suitable for the dilemma of self-survival.In the first part, I firstly analyze the mental state which is self-publicity or self-degradation in the novels, to reveal the writer’s humanity writing process from the natural human nature to the modern human nature. This witnessed the writer’s emotional catharsis from the resistance passion to break in the desire. Then through the incomplete or deteriorate home in the novel world, the writer showed the survival dilemma of the modern people which is lost or "homeless".In the second part, I carry out psychoanalysis on Mu Shiying’novels. Various instinct releasing or conflict of the characters are analyzed according to the writer’s life experience. The paradox of their personality is showed under the interaction of the id, the ego and the superego, and the releasing of libido such as the life instinct, the death instinct and the transformation of the instinct are also showed. Then I describe his sense of tragedy. Mu Shiying’s lifetime is tragic, and his novels are full of tragedy. I firstly analyze the writer’s strong sense of tragedy and its performance in the text, then reveal various types of life tragedies.In the part III, I analyze the novels’modernization about the narrative forms. I firstly analyze the lyricism narrative structure, including the repeat, catenation and other modern narrative skills. Then I analyze the internal perspective in the novels. Mu Shiying drew and innovated the western narrative discourses and modern art forms such as movies under the influence of the May Fourth spirit.
