Abstract

SOD is a kind of metalloenzyme, which exists widely in the body of aerobionts and plays an important role. SOD can clear away the excessive O2-·produced in metabolic process of organism. Moreover, it has functions of preventing disease, delaying the aging of human body, and improving the body’s immunity. Due to limitations associated with enzyme therapies (short lifetime, high cost, tissue impermeability, and immunogenicity, etc), chemical synthesis of the stable, non-toxic metal complexes (SOD mimics compounds) which catalyze the dismutation of O2-·offer considerable promise and have attracted much attention of many chemists.According to the different metal assist gene in SOD, there are three kinds of SOD :(1) CuZnS0D;(2) MnSOD; (3) FeSOD. In variety of organisms, the species and quantities of SOD are diversity. By speculating on the MnSOD and the chemistry mimics, the coordination environments are mostly imidazole, amidocyanogen nitrogen, and oxygen from carboxylic and phenolic coordinated atoms, etc. So the research on SOD mimics complex relates to the application of Schiff bases that can mimic the coordination of nature MnSOD and the other donor ligands including N- and O-. Accordingly, the investigation of SOD mimics complexes with Schiff bases (in particular derived from the salicylaldehyde) are developed rapidly. Our research project is focused on the synthesis, structures, spectra characterization and activity research of metal complexes with an amino-Schiff base (Salicylideneglycine) derived from the salicylaldehyde using as SOD mimics. The reason of preferring this amino-Schiff base (Salicylideneglycine) as ligands is that the complexes including it can form abundance hydrogen bonds and different geometry structures; however, both of them are essential to mimic SOD activity. Thirteen complexes with new crystal structures were prepared (as follow) in this paper. Testing of SOD-like activities for some ones is carried out and some nice results are achieved.
