Objective To compare the efficacy of Holmium laser lithotripsy treatment of complicated ureteral calculi with traditional open surgery . Method of comparing the complexity of our hospital from January 2004 to June 2008 ureteral stones in 240 cases (262 sides ) , the group of 136 patients ( 150 side ) and open surgery group , 104 cases ( 112 ) , holmium laser lithotripsy compare two different surgical efficacy . Results of the holmium laser lithotripsy group once a gravel success rate of 80.9% ( 110 / 136 ) , open surgery group once a stone success rate of 100% ( 104 / 104 ) , the success rate between the two groups was statistically significant (P lt; 0.05), open surgical stone removal success rate in the holmium laser group , but the incidence of complications of holmium laser group , length of stay, operative time, postoperative analgesic use , hospital costs were significantly lower than the open group , the difference statistically significant ( P lt; 0.05 ) . Conclusion holmium laser lithotripsy treatment of complicated ureteral calculi with less trauma , fewer complications , surgery , shorter hospital stay , less pain , and hospitalization costs Province efficacy advantages , can be used as the first choice for the treatment of complicated ureteral stones method. Open surgery in the the indications clear case can also be used .
