Abstract


Through using the methods of literature review and statistical observation,this thesis analyzes the usage of "first three strokes" technique by eight world-class male table tennis top players,including Ma Lin,Wang Hao,Li Jing,Rye Seung min,Wang Liqin,Timo Boll,Oh Sang Eun and Vladimir Samsonov,in the world table tennis contests in the latest two years.The analysis derives the following results:the usage rate of serving is 6.28%and the ratio of service ace is 10.81%.Backspin and side backspin are major used for service,while the shot is mainly placed in the net zone,and the receiver’s middle or left half court; the usage rate of the third ball is 20.79%,with a ratio of gaining points 62.97%,and the attack after service takes 79.61%in the third ball,with a scoring ratio 64.18%;the rate of service reception is 15.35%,with a scoring ratio of 62.59%,and the direct attack after service reception takes 44.42%,with a scoring ratio of 56.28%.By comparing the statistical data of the above three parts,it can be concluded that the technique of "first three strokes" is still playing a significant role in the modern table tennis contests and can dramatically affect the result of the contest.By comparison,the scoring rate of attack after service can reach the "excellence" level in case that its usage rate remains invariable,and the attack after service is still an important way for the top players to gain points.Forehand attack is primarily used for attack after service. The pen-holders tend to take more pivot attacks than the open-grip players, who take more backhand attack than the former ones.The service reception is mainly controllable and destructive,but the usage of direct attack for service reception is not in an obvious rise.Through comparing and analyzing the data of "first three strokes" between four top pen-holders and four top open-grip players,we reach a conclusion that the pen-holders are predominant in the "first three strokes" and the technique of RPB(reverse pen-hold backhand) should be the development orientation for the open-holders.In addition,it should be the evolving trend of table tennis to take the active and dominant status in the "first three strokes".
